Greg Downie

Illustration

Greg is an illustrator based on Waiheke Island, Auckland. His linear style lends itself to editorial illustration, and he sells his work internationally.

A graduate of the Otago Polytechnic School of Fine Arts, Greg majored in sculpture and has exhibited at many galleries throughout New Zealand, including shows at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery, the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery in New Plymouth and the Eastern Southland Gallery in Gore. His sculpture practice also led to several large-scale public and private commissions along with projects within film, performance (dance and musical theatre) and advertising.

For several years, Greg has worked with Auckland-based current affairs magazines on commissioned editorial illustrations. His interest in ecology and conservation also sparked a recent series of work on New Zealand native birds, including a range of prints and cards for outlets such as the Wellington ecosanctuary Zealandia. Another client, Auckland Botanic Gardens, recently commissioned a “sci-fi fantasy” garden plants mural.

Interests: illustration & conservation.
